An open, independently organized international art competition. Unorthodox, highly disruptive, and undeniably intriguing to the art world and public alike.

For 19 days in the early fall, this one‑of‑a‑kind exhibition covers three square miles of downtown Grand Rapids and features over 1,500 entries from around the globe. ArtPrize continues to serve as an open venue for anyone and everyone to find a voice in the conversation about what is art and why it matters.

ArtPrize Education Days bring over 15,000 area students to downtown Grand Rapids to explore, engage, and learn about “what is art” both during and after the main competition. The ArtPrize Labs are opportunities for over 10,000 visitors of all ages to participate in unique hands‑on programs and events.

Multiple prizes are determined by public vote and a jury of art critics, totaling over $500,000 in awards each year. In addition, ArtPrize provides over $200,000 in grants to artists, venues, educators, and education partners that help make the event possible.

In 2009, ArtPrize was founded by Dick and Betsy DeVos’ oldest son Rick. Since then, this event has continued to grow and evolve, drawing artists and visitors from all over the world to experience a community event that’s become impossible to ignore.
